We have frequently promoted an ability to address low volume, fast turnaround inquiries for RFQ’s. For example, we have suppliers interested in spare parts where subordinate locations are burdened with parents far away, or manufacturers of custom equipment where they need very low quantities for their products. Other situations of interest are older production parts out of regular production or repair parts needing reverse engineering.

These sorts of issues are often hard to source. Yet, Proficient Sourcing has several companies that work in this space (click HERE for a partial listing of all we do). Here is some evidence of success, and if you find yourself in a similar situation, we hope you will remember us.

  1. A relatively large company needed a specialty part for a project attempting to reshore manufacturing. They had looked for companies with appropriate capabilities, but the cost (about $6+/part) was a bit high and delivery of double-digit weeks would not work. In under 48 hours we found a source within 100 miles of the buyer with expertise in this specific type of work who offered pricing under a dollar and delivery in 3 weeks.
  1. A manufacturer of custom equipment needed a quote for an enclosure (sheet metal fabrication) involving many different parts, with quantities of 1 or 2 each. Within 24 hours of receipt of the RFQ we learned there was unusual urgency to this issue, and a quote was needed ASAP. Our candidates delivered quotes within another 24 hours and a PO was awarded same-day.

In general, situations normally provide a week or so for responding to RFQ’s. We make every attempt to respond within the time allotted. Frequent newsletter readers may note we often remark that buyers occasionally do not include the due-date for quoting, and business is lost as a consequence.
